Helps Families with Health and Wellness

July 14, 2006

Placer County Health and Human Services has joined a statewide online information system designed to help individuals, families and agencies find information and resources for issues such as mental health or substance abuse.  Information about community health, social services and things such as transportation is also available.

The Network of Care for Placer Countycan be found at www.placer.networkofcare.org, and will also linked from the Placer Countyweb site, www.placer.ca.gov. It is funded in part by the Mental Health Services Act approved by voters several years ago.

Included on the site are a service directory to more than 400 local agencies and a searchable library of health-related articles on topics such as medication, medical tests and support groups.

There are other links to a tool to find and track legislative agendas, major insurance options available in California, support and advocacy agencies, and links to related web sites.

Site visitors can also build a secure, personalized folder to save important links in a “favorites” section.

There’s also a link to resources for young children through the Placer County First Five CA Commission.

“We are confident our Network of Care will help people find the resources and information they need much more easily,” said Dr. Richard Burton, M.D., MPH, Director of Health and Human Services.  “It offers individuals the privacy and convenience of being able to search for information and resources from the comfort of their home.  Our county libraries also have computer access available for public use.” Network of Care also is available in multiple languages.

“We are thrilled to partner with the County on this project,” said DeAnne Thornton, Executive Director, Child Abuse Prevention Council Placer.“We believe this resource will increase access to services with important information available to providers and citizens at the click of a mouse.”
