New Community Development Center to be Dedicated

August 02, 2006

A dedication of Placer County's new Community Development Resource Center will take place on Tuesday, August 22, at 11:30 a.m. in North Auburn.

Residents and those doing land development business with the county are invited to attend.

The Center will assist everyone from developers wanting to build large-scale projects to families wanting to build dream homes. The new facility will provide one-stop shopping. That $21 million Community Development Resource Center is at 3091 County Center Drive in the Placer County Government Center in Auburn (DeWitt).  The building is near the intersection of Bell Road and Richardson Drive in the North Auburn area.

A single customer service counter, staffed by professionals trained in several disciplines, will eliminate the need for project applicants to shuttle between several buildings along B Avenue gathering information.

The second reason is a newly-designed county website that will allow anyone with a computer to find detailed information about parcels in the unincorporated areas of the county.

“We’ve been working for several years on these improvements and others, and it’s really exciting to see our goals become reality,” said John Marin, Community Development Agency Director.

“CDRA receives many phone calls and requests for information about parcels and permits from businesses and from the public.  Having this information available 24 hours a day will be helpful to them and allow our staff to focus on more challenging tasks.

“Anyone who has had to shuttle between B Avenue buildings in the past gathering information to get a permit will be delighted with our new single point service.”

New website features will allow a greater transparency of county government and make it easier to conduct County business 24 hours a day.

The Community Development Resource Agency’s new land information system allows a website visitor to look at a specific parcel - like a potential commercial development or home site - and actually see it on a GIS map.

By entering minimal information, such as the address, one can find things like the zoning, the parcel number, whether it’s in a city or the unincorporated area, and which school and supervisory district the land is in. This feature can be especially useful to builders or potential property buyers who want to conduct research before building or buying.

The County website also has added a feature to check the progress of building permits.  This is particularly useful for project applicants, who can find out the permit status and better understand what work remains to be done.  It will be useful to development professionals, but also to individuals building a home.

To see this new feature, open the county website (www.placer.ca.gov) and find “Community Development” (CDRA) in the department list.  Click on "new online resources".

The county website also now includes expanded information about actions the Board of Supervisors may be taking.  The Clerk of the Board is now posting the complete Board of Supervisors agenda including background information and staff reports, making it simple to download complete agenda items as well as minutes from past meetings. The current Planning Commission agenda and previous action agendas are also available.
