Countyand The Federal Technology Center are sponsoring a free workshop on Tuesday, Aug. 15 where local businesses can learn how to sell their products and services to government agencies.
“Super Seminar: Getting to Know Your Local Contracting Resources” will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city of Rocklin’s Sunset Center, 2650 Sunset Blvd. The city of Rocklinis hosting the event.
The workshop will be a chance to:
· Learn how to sell products and services to federal, state, county and city agencies;
· Find out about free resources that are available to help local businesses; and
· Network with purchasing representatives from government agencies.
“This promises to be an exciting event that will be helpful to any business interested in government contracting,” said Placer County Supervisor Ted Gaines. “I’m confident even businesses that already do contracting work with government agencies will learn something new and make contacts that could prove invaluable in the future.”
Supervisor Gaines is active in local business-assistance and job-development programs in his roles as a county supervisor and as chairman of the governing body at the Golden Sierra Job Training Agency.
The FederalTechnologyCenter(The FTC) is a nonprofit organization that promotes economic development by helping small businesses successfully compete for government contracts. “The FTC appreciates and depends upon PlacerCounty’s support to be able to provide our free services to small businesses,” stated Alice Astafan, CEO of The FTC.
“PlacerCounty has been extremely pleased with the interaction between our businesses and The FTC,” said countyDirectorof Economic Development David Snyder. “The results speak for themselves.”
He noted that The FTC has assisted 266 businesses in PlacerCountysince October 2000, conducting 47 classes and providing more than 700 counseling sessions. Businesses were awarded 4,590 government contracts totaling more than $74 million as a result of The FTC’s training, which equates to 1,748 jobs according to federal standards.
During the fiscal year that ended June 30, county businesses trained by The FTC reported receiving 179 government contracts totaling $10.3 million.
Scheduled speakers at Tuesday’s workshop include representatives from PlacerCounty, The FTC, the California General Services and Transportation departments, SierraCollege’s Procurement Division and the college’s SmallBusinessDevelopmentCenter.
A panel on contracting with the federal government is scheduled to feature representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Forest Service and Beale Air Force Base.
Officials from the cities of Lincoln, Rocklin and Rosevillewill participate in a panel discussion on contracting with local governments.
