Lake Tahoe Government Center Sites To Be Reviewed

Possible sites for a Placer County Government Centerin North Lake Tahoewill be discussed at the next North Tahoe Regional Advisory Committee (NTRAC) meeting on Thursday, Sept. 14.

The discussion will be a follow up to a process begun in June, when property owners were encouraged to propose sites they might be interested in offering to sell to the county for the center.

During the meeting, the public will be invited to comment on the six sites, which are considered the best opportunities to meet the county’s needs.

Placer County hopes to secure the land soon, while it’s still available, but doesn’t plan to build the center until 2012, according to Mary Dietrich, Assistant Director of Facility Services.

After staff conducts further research and makes recommendations, the Placer County Board of Supervisors could direct staff to begin negotiations with owners of the most promising sites.

The Placer County Government Centerat Tahoe is part of the county plan to improve access to services it offers at the lake.  When completed, the center would provide the public with a single place for access to both general government and land use functions that are currently in different locations. The County also wishes to include other, non-county departments and agencies whose proximity to PlacerCountyservices would enhance the delivery of public services.

The NTRAC meeting will take place at the North Tahoe Community Conference Center, beginning at 6 p.m.
