Recovery Happens Celebration Planned

Good food, live music and fun for children await the public Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Recovery Happens 2006, a family-oriented celebration held to acknowledge people who are on their way to overcoming alcohol or drug dependency. 

Open to the entire community, this free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in RecreationPark, located at 123 Recreation Drivenear Old Town Auburn. 

The sixth annual Recovery Happens will feature a free barbecue and treats, live music by Dudleyand the Do-Rights and theatrical stage performances. Entertainment for kids will include fun jumps, a puppet show and face painting.

Recovery Happens is part of a nationwide celebration that supports people seeking to recover from substance abuse and recognizes some of their many success stories.

The celebration also seeks to spotlight the many prevention, treatment and recovery programs that are available in PlacerCounty. 

At its Sept. 12 meeting, the countyBoardof Supervisors proclaimed September to be National Alcohol & Drug Prevention Treatment and Recovery Month in PlacerCounty.

Organizers of the Sept. 30 Recovery Happens celebration include several county programs: the Perinatal Substance Abuse Treatment Programs, Children’s System of Care and Adult System of Care and the Expressive Arts Program as part of the ASOC  Welcome Center.

Other sponsors include the Family Resource Centers of Placer County; Rocklin Community Counseling; Hope, Help & Healing; and the New Leaf Counseling Center.

Other sponsors are the Sierra Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependency; Sierra Family Services, Koinonia, Progress House, Aegis Medical Systems, SLADE Family Services and The Effort.
