Auburn Forum to Address Meth Use

As part of a continuing series of forums about drug abuse in Placer County, there will be a town forum in Auburnon Wednesday, March 21, 2007, to discuss methamphetamine use in the community.

The purpose of the forum is to increase awareness of meth abuse in communities such as Auburn, identify how drug-related behavior affects communities and brainstorm about possible solutions. Everyone is invited to attend: parents, teachers and school administrators, students, business owners and concerned citizens.

The forum will be at 6:30 p.m. and held at Parkside Church, 3885 Richardson Drivein Auburn. The event is sponsored by the Placer County Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Board and is the third of three forums to be held countywide as part of a meth awareness campaign organized by Placer Countyin cooperation with other local agencies. The program was announced late last year in Auburnand community forums have already been held in Lincolnand Tahoe City.

Featured speakers include:

  • Placer County Sheriff Ed Bonner;
  • Placer County Health Officer Dr. Richard Burton;
  • Auburn Police Department Chief Valerie Harris;
  • Local author Christy Crandell;
  • Recovering meth addict Leonard Brown; and
  • Former meth user Jenay McCubbin.

The forum will provide an opportunity for residents to voice their concerns about drug use, ask questions of the speakers and suggest ideas for prevention.
