Grant Application Period Opens

March 09, 2007

Placer County 's Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee (LCBC) today began accepting applications for grants to programs that mitigate the effects of tribal gaming upon local jurisdictions, including cities, special districts and the County.

The grant funds come from the state-established Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund. That fund uses a formula based on the number of tribal gaming machines. In Placer County, grant funding this year is expected to total about $320,000. The 2006 grant total was $756,000.

Applications and additional information are available on the Placer Countywebsite at the address listed below. Agencies may also call the Placer County Executive Office at 530-889-4030. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on March 30, 2007.

The LCBC, in conjunction with the United Auburn Indian Community (UAIC), will recommend to the State Controller's Office which applications should be awarded grants and the amount of each grant award. Priorities for funding have been established by the state, and include such things as law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, environmental impacts, youth programs, health, water supplies, waste disposal and roads. The County, its cities, and special districts within the County affected by tribal gaming are eligible to apply for grants.

On March 8, during the LCBC's first meeting of 2007, Rocklin Vice Mayor  Brett Storey was elected chairman. Other committee members include Placer County Supervisors Robert Weygandtand Bruce Kranz; City of Roseville Mayor Jim Grey, Lincoln Mayor Kent Nakata; UAIC Tribal Chair Jessica Tavares, Tribal Vice Chairperson Julie Huff; and Howard Dickstein, LCBC alternate member, and counsel to the UAIC.
