North Tahoe Economic Study Released
North Tahoe Economic Study Released
July 13, 2007

The Placer County Redevelopment Agency today released a comprehensive study, Economic and Redevelopment Strategies for Kings Beachand Tahoe City.

The study is a result of earlier findings made by Design Workshop in 2005, which were instrumental in forming the Memorandum of Agreement between Placer Countyand the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. This document acknowledged the need for demonstration programs that would assist in guiding the code changes to an updated Regional Plan.

In 2006 the Redevelopment Agency contracted with EPS to take the Design Workshop findings to the next level and to specifically analyze and recommend for Kings Beachand Tahoe Citythe economic, social and regulatory policies and programs needed to include in a viable demonstration program.

"The Placer County Redevelopment Agency has been striving to improve the social and economic infrastructure on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe," said Rich Colwell, Redevelopment Director. "We have many projects in the pipeline that will improve the area and this study is another tool that will enable us to tailor future efforts that will be of greatest benefit to the area."

The study has already been put to use. Agency staff has worked with potential developers using the EPS findings and recommendations to frame future development concepts. The report is also consistent with the direction from the Placer County Placed Based Planning Working Group.

On July 23, 2007 the Agency Board will receive the report in its regular Board meeting. The study is available for public review and downloading on the Agency’s web page: http://www.placer.ca.gov/CEO/Redevelopment. Hardcopies will also be available at the Kings Beachand Tahoe Citylibraries.
