Placer County’s Public Works Department, Stormwater Management Division, is hosting a free workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 14, to inform contractors about stormwater quality rules and Best Management Practices (BMPs) adequate to construction sites.
The workshop will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the County Administrative Center in Auburn, 175 Fulweiler Avenue, locally known as the “domes”. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m.
Attendees will learn about state and federal water quality protection as well as local ordinances implemented by the county and local cities.
Speakers will include Dani Berchtold, Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board, and Mark White, Erosion Control Specialist with the Placer County Resource Conservation District. Representatives from the cities of Lincoln, Auburn and Placer County will also provide information.
Federal, state and local laws require all pollutants be contained and disposed of properly from construction sites. Pollutants include sediments, petroleum products, trash, fertilizers, paint, cement products and other materials. Contractors are especially challenged with erosion control and sediment releases, which are a huge problem in California.
“This workshop is intended to answer questions and explain best management practices,” said Bill Schell, Assistant Engineer for Placer County.
