Douglas Boulevard Paving to Continue

August 15, 2008

Paving work on Douglas Boulevard between Sierra College Boulevard and Seeno Avenue in Granite Bay will take a little longer to complete than expected because of an unanticipated delay Thursday evening.

The project now is scheduled to be completed Monday night. It originally was to be finished Saturday morning.

Approximately 25 percent of the paving work on eastbound Douglas was done Thursday before work came to a halt because of a breakdown at the plant that supplies paving material for the project. Teichert Construction, the contractor, responded by laying temporary pavement so motorists can travel the eastbound lanes safely until the paving work can be completed. Uneven pavement joints do exist, but are well within specifications established by the California Department of Transportation and appropriate signage has been placed to advise motorists to be cautious.

On Friday night, Teichert plans to follow its original schedule, which calls for having Douglas open for eastbound traffic. While westbound lanes are being repaved, westbound traffic will be detoured southward on Barton Road and west on Eureka Road to Sierra College Boulevard. The detour is scheduled to remain in effect from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.

The paving work on the eastbound lanes will be completed Monday night. Lane closures will be in effect, but no detours are anticipated.

This summer, Placer County is spending approximately $4 million on road-overlay projects from west Roseville to North Lake Tahoe.
