Holmes Selected Chair of Board of Supervisors
The Placer County Board of Supervisors selected Jim Holmes to serve as chairman and Rocky Rockholm to be vice chairman for 2008.
The five-member board approved both appointments on unanimous votes.
Supervisor Holmes’ first act as chairman was to present a plaque recognizing his predecessor as chairman, 5th District Supervisor Bruce Kranz.
Chairman Holmes joined the board in January, 2005. He represents the 3rd District, which includes Auburn, Ophir, Newcastle, Penryn and Loomis.
An Auburn native, Chairman Holmes has more than 29 years of business experience and a long track record of community involvement for Placer County, the Auburn Union Elementary School District, Placer Consolidated Fire Protection District, Highway 49 Business Association, Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce, and Boys and Girls Club of Auburn.
The chairman presides over board meetings, approves final agendas and often represents the county at community events, but generally has the same powers as other supervisors.
Supervisor Holmes served as vice chairman last year.
Supervisor Rockholm, the new vice chairman, has been on the board since January, 2007. As the 1st District supervisor, he represents part of Roseville and western Placer County.
Supervisor Rockholm is a former Roseville mayor and councilman who has lived in the Roseville area more than 30 years. He worked as a police officer in Roseville for 15 years, serving as a sergeant from 1992 until his retirement in 1996.
