Placer County is updating the Housing Element of the County General Plan. The Housing Element sets out the goals, policies and implementation programs for the planning and development of housing throughout the county. Once adopted, the revised Housing Element will be in effect until 2013. California law requires that the Element be completed by the county and submitted to the California Department of Housing and Community Development for review and certification.
The Placer County Planning Commission will conduct a workshop on June 12, at 3 pm, in the Planning Commission Hearing Room, 3091 County Center Drive, Auburn, on the proposed update to the Placer County Housing Element. The Housing Element is part of the County’s General Plan and it provides goals, polices, and implementation programs for the planning and development of housing throughout unincorporated Placer County. State law requires that the Housing Element be updated every five years. The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of the revisions and updates to the County’s Housing Element and to receive public comment. The revisions consist of modifications to the text and implementation programs as well as goal and policies.
The Planning Commission will take no formal action at this hearing to adopt the update to the Housing Element. After conducting the workshop, the draft update to the Housing Element will be forwarded to the Placer County Board of Supervisors. The Placer County Board of Supervisors must authorize submission of the draft Housing Element to the California Department of Housing and Community Development for review and certification. Once the State certifies the document, separately noticed public hearings will be conducted before both the Planning Commission and County Board of Supervisors to consider the formal adoption of the Housing Element by amending Section 2, Housing, of the Placer County General Plan.
There will also be two public workshops in a less formal setting than the Planning Commission’s. workshops. They will be:
- June 5, 2008, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Community Development Resource Center, 3091 County Center Drive, DeWitt Center, Auburn; and,
- June 10, 2008, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Tahoe City Public Utility District Board Room, 221 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City.
