Gladding Fire Forum Planned

September 18, 2008

PLACER COUNTY TO HOST COMMUNITY FORUM ABOUT GLADDING FIRE

Placer County will sponsor a community forum on Thursday, Sept. 25 to provide an overview of the Gladding Fire and the recovery efforts now under way.

The forum will be held at 7 p.m. in Mount Pleasant Hall, which is at 3333 Mt. Pleasant Road in the Lincoln area.

“We want to make sure residents have the best information available about the fire and its aftermath, and have an opportunity to get their questions answered,” said Placer County Supervisor Robert Weygandt.

“I have lived most of my life in the Lincoln area, and I had never seen anything like the Gladding Fire. The community meeting will be a good opportunity to talk about the lessons learned from the fire and continue our education about things residents can do to help protect their homes from wildfires.”

Supervisor Weygandt will give opening remarks and participate in a panel discussion during the forum. He represents the 2nd District, which includes rural areas around Lincoln.

Other scheduled speakers include Placer County Fire Warden Brad Harris, a Cal Fire unit chief, and Program Manager Rui Cunha of the Placer County Office of Emergency Services.

Other agencies invited to participate include the county Sheriff’s Department, Animal Services Division, Environmental Health Division and Public Information Office; California Highway Patrol; Red Cross; and Lincoln Community Emergency Response Team.

The Gladding Fire started northeast of Lincoln at 12:39 p.m. on Sept. 1. In its final fact sheet, Cal Fire reported the blaze burned about 960 acres and destroyed six residences and 10 outbuildings.
