The deadline is nearing for submitting nominations for the Meadow Vista Community Service Award. The Award, given each year to an area resident who has a sustained history of community service, will be presented to this year’s recipient in June. The submission deadline for nominees is May 8, 2009.
The Award recognizes one of the residents of the Meadow Vista who, through their generous actions, contributes to the community. The criteria for the awards are:
- Service to the community that has been diversified;
- Service that has been outside of and beyond the nominee’s employment or business activities;
- Service that has taken place over a number of years;
- The nominee has shown a deep concern for the well-being of others; and
- The nominee has been an inspiration to others.
“The strength of our communities is exemplified by the quality of people who live here and many local residents give of themselves to better the places they call home,” said Placer County Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery, whose 5th district includes Meadow Vista. “It is an honor for me to be involved in the Meadow Vista Community Award because it is a way for the community as a whole to single out the upstanding individuals who have long shown a commitment to bettering where they live.”
The selection of the recipient will be done by the Community Service Awards Committee, which will meet to select a candidate in May, shortly after the nomination deadline. The award, which is sponsored by the Meadow Vista Merchants Association, will then be confirmed by the Meadow Vista Municipal Advisory Council. The Placer County Board of Supervisors will issue the recipient a proclamation, which will be presented by Supervisor Montgomery. A tree will be planted and a plaque dedicated to this year’s winner on Pioneer Day in the Meadow Vista Park, which is June 7, 2009.
