Additional H1N1 Vaccine Clinic Offered

December 21, 2009

The public H1N1 flu vaccine clinic on Fri., Dec 18, 2009, was a big success. The clinic was offered by the Placer County Health and Human Services’ Public Health Division and the City of Auburn. More than 750 people were immunized there, for a total of nearly 3,000 H1N1 flu vaccines given last week in public clinics in Placer County.

However, an additional clinic will be held in Auburn on Tues., Dec. 22, because not all who came to the clinic Friday were able to be served. The newly-added clinic will be held from 9 AM to 1 PM in the County’s Community Development Resource Center, at 3091 County Center Drive, in the Auburn Government Center (also called DeWitt). County Center Drive is located off Bell Road near Richardson Drive.

Any Placer County resident who needs an H1N1 vaccination may come to the clinic on Tuesday. There is no charge.

All residents are encouraged to be vaccinated against H1N1 flu, and those in the “target groups” for this vaccine are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated. The target groups, as identified by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, include:

  • Pregnant women;
  • People who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age;
  • Health care and emergency medical personnel;
  • Anyone from 6 months through 24 years of age;
  • Anyone from 25 through 64 years of age with certain chronic medical conditions or a weakened immune system.

As additional vaccine arrives, likely next month, Placer County will schedule additional H1N1 vaccine clinics.

Alternately, individuals may wish to contact their healthcare provider to see if they have vaccine available.

Placer County will continue to provide information through its web site, www.placer.ca.gov. To receive future information about flu clinics through direct e-mail, consider signing up for the county’s free e-newsletter, available at the above web address.

Residents may also call the county’s flu line, 530-889-7161, to hear a recorded message in English or Spanish, or may call 530-889-7141 weekdays for more information.
