Placer County Services Available Despite Snowy Weather

December 07, 2009

All Placer County facilities are open and operating Monday despite the snowfall.

Placer County Transit is in full operation, with only one route cancelled today – the Alta-Colfax route. The Tahoe Area Regional Transit is also operating.

Placer County Public Works is in full-scale snow removal operation in North Lake Tahoe and other county locations. Placer County has a major snow removal program for county roads; while Caltrans is responsible for snow removal on state highways.  Placer County Public Works staff began working in the middle of the night, with crews as low as Newcastle, to help keep roads passable despite the unexpectedly heavy snowfall.

If residents see a downed power line, they should call PG&E. The phone number is 1-800-743-5000 (extension1).

If residents need to report a tree down in the road right of way, they can call Placer County Public Works at 530-745-7565 if it’s in unincorporated Placer County. If the site is in a city, they should call that city. If there are power lines involved, PG&E should be called instead so lines can be safely removed first.

The weather is expected to be very cold tonight, so residents should be prepared to bundle up.
