Applicants Sought for Assessment Appeals Board

June 17, 2009

Placer County is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Assessment Appeals Board.

The five-member appeals board hears cases where property owners are appealing property appraisals made by the county Assessor’s Office. In such cases, the board determines property values after taking evidence from the applicants and representatives from the Assessor’s Office.

Appeals board members must have at least five years of professional experience in California as certified public accountants or public accountants, licensed real estate brokers, attorneys or property appraisers. Members who are property appraisers must be accredited by a nationally recognized professional organization, certified by the California Office of Real Estate Appraisers or certified by the California State Board of Equalization.

Applicants for the vacant appeals board seat must live within Placer County. No deadline has been set for submitting applications, but the Board of Supervisors hopes to fill the vacancy soon.

Each of the five supervisors has responsibility for submitting nominees for one seat on the appeals board. Second District Supervisor Robert M. Weygandt will review applications for the vacant seat and ask the full Board of Supervisors to confirm his nominee.

The appeals board meets on an as-needed basis. Members generally serve three-year terms.

For application forms or more information, call the Clerk of the Board’s Office at 530-889-4020.

Applications also are available on the county’s Web site at www.placer.ca.gov. To download an application, press the “Forms” icon in the “Online Services” section on the county homepage and the “County Applications” icon under “Quick Links” at the upper right corner of the new page that appears. Next, click on the “Placer County Committee or Commission Application” icon.

Completed applications should be delivered to the Clerk of the Board’s Office in person or by mail. The office is located at 175 Fulweiler Ave. in Auburn.

The mailing address is 175 Fulweiler Ave., Auburn, CA 95603.
