Foresthill Meeting on Rural Economics

FORESTHILL, CA – The Foresthill Forum, a Placer County advisory council for this foothills community, will host a presentation on economic opportunities at its regularly scheduled meeting on Mon., June 1, 2009. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Foresthill Veterans Memorial Hall, 24601 Harrison Road, Foresthill.

Steve Frisch, President of the Sierra Business Council, will make a presentation on rural economic development strategies and new opportunities from developing forest management policy at the meeting.

The presentation will include:

  • An overview of the rural economic development strategies included in Sierra Business Councils "Investing for Prosperity" Publications;
  • Examples of innovations in rural economic development with examples from across the country; and
  • A focus on the link between rural economic development strategies and new opportunities from developing forest management policy, including:
    • thermal biomass;
    • stewardship contracting;
    • carbon sequestration; and
    • rural green jobs.

“The Sierra Business Council’s is known for its innovative thinking when it comes to economic and environmental stewardship for the Sierra Nevada and its foothills,” said Placer County Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery, whose Fifth District includes Foresthill. “This is a great opportunity for the Foresthill community to hear about creative plans to improve the economic health of the region while also sustaining its environment.”
