Placer County Giving Away Shade Trees

November 17, 2009

Placer County is partnering with The Placer Nature Center and Placer Tree Partners to give away shade trees to residents of the unincorporated areas of the county who attend a shade tree seminar on Dec. 5, 2009.

The giveaway is part of an effort to provide information to residents about the benefits of trees. The funding for the program comes through a grant from CalFire’s Urban Forestry Unit. The culmination will provide 200 shade trees that will be planted in the unincorporated areas of western Placer County.

To get one of the trees, county residents need to register and attend one of three free seminars offered on Dec. 5, at the Placer County CDRA Building, 3091 County Center Dr., Auburn on the corner of Bell Road and Richardson Drive. Three seminars being held at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30, and will cover tree selection, choosing a planting site, proper planting techniques, and tree care. Arborists and Master Gardeners will be available to offer advice and answer homeowner questions. Residents will leave the seminar not only with their trees, but with the knowledge to plant and care for them as they mature in their landscape.

Registration can be done by multiple methods: fax, e-mail or regular mail or online. For fax registration, download and fill out the application available at this link: application, and fax to 530-745-3080.
