Drive-through Flu Clinics Save Time

October 06, 2009

You don’t even need to get out of your car to get a seasonal flu shot at one of Placer County Health Department’s drive-through flu shot clinics.

On Thursday, Oct. 8, you can drive through the parking lot at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn between 9 a.m. and noon, fill out some simple paperwork, stick out your arm, and be on your way quickly.

To take advantage of this flu clinic, enter the Gold Country Fairgrounds from Auburn Folsom Road at Fairgate.

A second drive-through clinic will be held in the Sierra College Parking Lot H and I, on the East Campus, 5000 Rocklin Road, on Friday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m. to noon.

“A bout with seasonal flu can leave you or your family members feeling miserable with fever, cough, runny nose and muscle pain, and unable to go to school or work. Getting a flu shot is an excellent way to reduce your chances of getting seasonal flu, which can be a very serious disease for those at greatest risk,” said Dr. Mark Starr, Director of Placer County Community Health and Clinics.

There is a $20 charge for flu vaccinations. Medicare patients who have Part B and are not part of an HMO are free. Reduced cost vaccinations are also available on a sliding scale depending on eligibility.

H1N1 vaccinations are not available at this clinic, nor does seasonal flu vaccine protect against H1N1. So get your seasonal flu vaccine now and the H1N1 flu vaccine when it becomes available to maximize your protection against both of these diseases.

Information about additional seasonal flu clinics is available on the Placer County Web site or by calling 530-889-7141.
