April 20, 2010

On Monday, May 3, Foresthill residents will gather to celebrate the completion of state-of-the-art sports lighting in the Leroy E. Botts Memorial Park.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. residents can enjoy a time-honored “baseball dinner” featuring hot dogs, peanuts and crackerjacks, to be served in the group picnic area behind the Foresthill Memorial Hall. It is located at 24601 Harrison Street in Foresthill.

New ligthing at the Leroy E. Botts Memorial Park in ForesthillDedication ceremonies for the lighting will begin at 8 p.m. at the Harold Clark Ball Field, located at Harrison Street and Church Street.

Nestled attractively in the tall pine trees, the new lighting system is designed to provide maximum safety for players, while also being energy-efficient.

“Concern about park lighting was one of the very first issues that came to me after I was elected,” said Placer County Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery. “The community was very concerned that there was a $25,000 shortfall in the money needed.

“I worked with the County Executive Office, the Parks Department and the Parks Commission, who put heart and soul into finding a way to fund the lights,” she said.

The community worked closely with Placer County’s Parks Division to plan, fund and guide the process. The Foresthill Forum, Placer County Parks Commission and the Board of Supervisors approved the allocation of $236,000 in county park dedication fees.

The project included demolition and removal of the old lights, design services, the new lights and renovation of fencing and bleachers. Local volunteers helped reduce costs by over $10,000 by removing the old overthrow fencing, installing the new fencing and repairing the bleachers.
