January 20, 2010

Placer County will hold an informational meeting in North Auburn Wednesday, Feb. 10 for construction contractors interesting in bidding on a seismic retrofit and paint job planned for the Foresthill Bridge.

The meeting is scheduled to be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

The center is at the intersection of Bell Road and Richardson Drive in the Placer County Government Center, a complex commonly known as the DeWitt Center.

After the informational session, Public Works will provide bus service to potential bidders interested in an escorted tour of the bridge site. Access will be limited to the deck and catwalk system.

To participate in the site visit, contractors will be required to ride the bus. Reservations must be made no later than Feb. 4. Reservation requests should be submitted to April Pay at Each request should include the name of the company and the number of people who will attend.

Placer County plans to go out to bid on the construction contract in late spring or early summer of this year, depending on funding authorizations.

Work is scheduled to last approximately 2 ½ years once it begins.

The 2,428-foot-long bridge takes Foresthill Road over the North Fork of the American River between Auburn and Foresthill. Built in 1972 for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the bridge now is owned, operated and maintained by Placer County.

Construction costs are projected to be about $70 million for the seismic retrofit, paint job, construction of a new catwalk system and miscellaneous bridge rehabilitation work.
