Assistance Center Closing; Job Fair Set for Wednesday

A Local Assistance Center that was opened last week by Placer County to aid employees affected by the Galleria fire will be closing today. With the successful re-opening of about 60 stores and the relocation of additional employees to other area stores, the need for the Center has dropped. The Center, which was located at 1000 Sunset Blvd., Suite 220, in Rocklin, will close as of 5PM today.

Individuals affected by the fire and still needing assistance can:

  • Apply on line for unemployment benefits at;
  • Call toll free at 1-800-300-5616 for benefit information;
  • Visit the EDD local, One Stop Career Center at 1919 Grass Valley Highway, Auburn or 5655 Hillsdale Blvd., Sacramento; and
  • Apply for food stamps and other public assistance at their local county assistance office. In Placer County at 1000 Sunset Blvd, suite 220 Rocklin, or 11542 B Avenue, Auburn.

Additionally, a special job fair for those affected by the fire will be held Wed, Nov 3, from 1 PM to 4 PM at the University of Phoenix, 516 Gibson Dr., Roseville. There will be resume critiquing available from 1:00 to 3:30 P.M. More information on the job fair, including which employers who will attend, can be found at:

Attending retailers will be on hand to accept resumes and interview for job openings. A list of confirmed companies can be found on the county website at starting Mon. Nov. 1, 2010. Confirmed employers will be attending include:

  • Express Employment Professionals;

  • Thunder Valley Casino Resort;
  • Bath and Body Works;
  • Chipotle Mexican Grill;
  • Dave and Busters; and
  • Sam’s Club.
