The resolution was given by the State Historic Resources Commission at its two-day, quarterly meeting held in Auburn Thursday and today.

A part of the Facility Services Department, the division manages six county museums staffed by trained personnel and volunteers, who bring to life the rich history of the region through Living History programs, school tours, community education programs, guided tours of Old Town Auburn and the annual countywide Heritage Trail event.

Docents transform today into yesterday with hands-on interactive opportunities that encompass the whole experience that has made Placer County museums premier places to visit. The artifacts on display cover the full scope of local history, from the Native Americans to the Gold Rush era, through the evolution of the railroad and into the current century.

The mission of the Museums Division is to serve the public and promote community involvement through heritage education, preservation of historic artifacts and the county’s rich historic and cultural legacy, and programs that add to the understanding of Placer County, its people, places and events. It accomplishes this through continually developing creative programs. Its perseverance and dedication has earned the division state recognition.

The SHRC is a nine-member state review board, appointed by the Governor, responsible for the identification, registration, and preservation of California’s cultural heritage. Its primary function is to review applications for listing historic and archaeological resources on the National Register of Historic Places, the California Register of Historical Resources, the California Historical Landmarks and the California Points of Historical Interest registration programs.
