Mosquito & Vector Control District Board Has Vacancy For County Rep

December 02, 2011

Placer County is seeking applications from residents interested in serving as the county representative on the Placer Mosquito & Vector Control District's Board of Trustees.

No deadline has been set for receiving applications, but the Placer County Board of Supervisors plans to fill the vacancy soon because the term of the existing county representative on the Board of Trustees expires at the end of the year.

To serve as county representative, an individual must be a county voter and resident.

The Mosquito & Vector Control District is an independent special district committed to reducing populations of mosquitoes and other vectors in Placer County. The district’s mission statement is “to effectively and efficiently manage the risks from vectors and vector-borne diseases in order to protect public health and quality of life in Placer County.”

A vector is an insect or any other animal capable of transmitting a disease or causing harm to people or other animals. Vectors found in Placer County include mosquitoes, ticks, yellow jackets and rats.

The district is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees that includes the county representative and six members who represent local cities and the town of Loomis. Members are appointed to two-year or four-year terms.

The Board of Trustees normally meets at 4:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the district’s offices at 2021 Opportunity Drive in Roseville. The board’s duties include setting policy, approving the district budget and working with the general manager to achieve the district’s mission.

For application forms or more information, call the Clerk of the Board’s Office at 530-889-4020.

Applications also are available online at http://www.placer.ca.gov/bos/committees-and-commissions. When the webpage appears, hit the “Apply to serve on a Committee or Commission” link under the “Quick Links” section at the right side of the page.

Completed applications should be delivered to the Clerk of the Board’s Office in person or by mail. The office is located at 175 Fulweiler Ave. in Auburn. The mailing address is 175 Fulweiler Ave., Auburn, CA 95603.
