County Cancels Plan For Foresthill Shelter Because Power Is Back On
February 28, 2011
Placer County cancelled plans for opening an overnight emergency shelter in Foresthill tonight because power has been restored to the community.
The shelter plans were part of Placer County’s response to power outages caused by Friday’s storms that severely affected three foothill communities: Foresthill, Colfax and Alta-Dutch Flat. Early Saturday afternoon, Pacific Gas & Electric notified the county that any remaining outages in the three communities will be resolved by early Saturday evening.
In Alta-Dutch Flat, Placer County had been working with the Alta Volunteer Fire Protection District on plans for opening a shelter if needed.
The Gathering Inn, an organization that operates nomadic shelters in Placer County, still plans to open an extreme weather shelter in Auburn Saturday night. In Auburn, the pickup location is a gazebo at the Placer County Government Center, a North Auburn complex commonly known as the DeWitt Center. The gazebo is located across Richardson Boulevard from the Placer County Jail near the intersection of Richardson and Atwood Road.
People using Gathering Inn’s shelters are expected to be clean and sober. The organization randomly tests guests and expects its guests to be clear of Megan’s Law.
