Board Of Supervisors To Hold Another In Series Of Budget Workshops

March 21, 2011

The Placer County Board of Supervisors will hold another budget workshop Tuesday as part of a drive to have a budget plan in place when the 2011-12 fiscal year starts July 1.

Tuesday’s workshop will include a summary of the budget challenges facing Placer County, including expected reductions in property tax revenue and potential impacts from the state budget next fiscal year.

A summary report prepared for board review says the county is facing a projected budget deficit of $2.8 million for 2011-12, but has approximately $30 million at risk because of state-funding reductions and increased county responsibilities being considered by Gov. Jerry Brown and the California Legislature in their budget deliberations.

During Tuesday’s workshop, board members will take a closer look at the budget challenges facing:

  • Placer County fire protection services;
  • The county Road Fund;
  • The Community Development Resource Agency; and
  • County public safety budgets.

On April 5, county staff will present the board a series of options for dealing with next year’s budget challenges.

The board is scheduled to review a proposed 2011-12 county budget in June so it can have a preliminary budget plan in place July 1. Board members will hold another series of workshops in August before adopting a final budget in September.

Tuesday’s board meeting will take place at 9 a.m. in the county Administrative Center at 175 Fulweiler Ave. in Auburn.
