Biomass Open House Set for November 15 in Squaw Valley

November 01, 2011

Placer County announced that a public open house will be held on Tues., Nov. 15, 2011, in Squaw Valley, to present information on biomass energy production. The open house will be at the Squaw Valley Public Service District offices. The open house will run from 3 PM until 7 PM in the District’s Community Room, 305 Squaw Valley Road.

Private and public specialists in air emissions, biomass energy technology, sustainable biomass supply assessments, biomass logistics planning and forest management will be present at this informal open house to discuss the latest concepts of biomass energy production. While there will be no formal presentations, the meeting will feature displays and graphics and will provide opportunity for one-on-one or small group discussions with the specialists.

“The plan to build a biomass facility to serve eastern Placer County needs is still very much alive,” said Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery, whose Fifth District includes the eastern end of the County. “I would encourage all interested groups and individuals to come to this meeting to learn about, and ask questions about the latest information on the continually improving technology for biomass power generation.”

Placer County will release an environmental document that discusses a possible biomass energy facility at Placer County’s Cabin Creek property sometime in 2012. The Notice of Preparation is expected to be available by year’s end 2011. Public comment for this proposed project will not be taken at the Squaw Valley meeting. Instead, there will be information available about how to both access copies of the document and provide input.

Interested persons are encouraged to drop by any time between 3 pm and 7 pm
