As directed by the Board of Supervisors last July, Placer County Planning staff has moved forward with the Tahoe Basin Community Plan Update (TBCPU) work program. The program has set up a public outreach strategy to ensure the county’s work on its own Community Plan for the Tahoe area is done in coordination with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s (TRPA) Update.
There are four regions within the Placer County Community Plan for Lake Tahoe that will affect the TRPA document. They include: North Tahoe East; North Tahoe West, West Shore, and Greater Tahoe City. The working groups, also known as Plan Area Teams, each consist of nine members who will work to ensure the plans reflect the community’s vision. Additionally, the four working groups will assist the county develop the zoning and design standards.
“While still early in the process, we have identified a very strong group of people committed to creating a sustainable, long term, planning vision for their communities,” said Fifth District Supervisor and Board Chairwoman, Jennifer Montgomery. “Working with County staff, local Districts and most importantly the Plan Area Team members, we have great hopes for a robust, open, public and transparent process that ends up with a livable, workable vision for the future.”
The Plan Area Teams have been finalized and team members have been notified. Team members are from the identified Plan Areas. The teams consist of a balanced representation of the business/commercial community, the environmental community and residents within each community.
The Board will hear a report on the status of the County’s Tahoe Basin Community Plan Update at its next regular meeting, Tues., April 24, 2012.
The County will hold its first Community Workshop where the Plan Area Teams will meet and break out into working group sessions geared at the development of each Plan Area Team’s zoning and design standards. The workshop is scheduled for May 9, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 North Lake Blvd., in Kings Beach.
