Almost 50 miles of roadway throughout Placer County will be resurfaced in the coming months after the Board of Supervisors OKd a $3.126 million contact. The ambitious project, approved at today’s regularly scheduled Board meeting, will improve roads throughout the county from Granite Bay and West Roseville to Truckee.
There will be three types of treatment applied to the roads:
- Slurry seal;
- Rubberized chip seal; and
- Cape seal.
The road resurfacing processes will provide a new wearing surface, crack sealing, pavement rejuvenation and sealing. Three bids were received for the project and the contract was awarded to the low bidder, Western Pavement Solutions of Brea, California.
A link to the list of roadways is included at the end of this document. As construction schedules are finalized, that list may change and the list will be updated regularly. Work is expected to begin in two to three weeks.
In another matter, the Board approved a $315,000 budget revision for the Truckee River Corridor Access Plan Environmental Impact Report contract. There is no single agency, organization or stakeholder that has jurisdiction over all the land in the river corridor. The Placer County Planning Division has taken the first steps to coordinate the preparation of the Plan in order to identify environmental and access-related issues and projects. The Plan will focus on reducing sediment in the river’s watershed, in addition to enhancing the river corridor’s ecological, water quality, recreational and non-motorized transportation, while protecting private property rights of corridor landowners.
When finished, the Plan will direct land management activities, assist in the preparation of environmental documents and develop trails, staging areas, and other potential low-intensity recreational facilities.
“This is a great project,” said Board Chairwoman Jennifer Montgomery, whose Fifth District includes a long stretch of the Truckee River watershed. “It’s a great proposal for a project that’s been a long time coming.”
