Supervisor Holmes to Host Town Hall Meeting on Senior Issues

June 29, 2012

Placer County Supervisor Jim Holmes will host a Town Hall Meeting for senior citizens, family caregivers and community stakeholders, to identify issues that are of importance to the county’s senior community. Local experts on aging will be available at the meeting to meet with seniors. In addition, the meeting will give senior citizens a forum to share their concerns and ideas with leaders in the local aging services network.

The meeting will be on Thurs., July 12, 2012, at the Loomis Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 5945 Horseshoe Bar Rd., in Loomis from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Supervisor Holmes is hosting the meeting in partnership with the Placer County Older Adult Advisory Council and the Area 4 Agency on Aging. Input received from at the meeting will be used to help shape decisions on which services will be offered to Placer County seniors through federal Older Americans Act funds over the next four years (2013-17).

“I am grateful that I can help facilitate this meeting that will benefit an important segment of the Placer County community,” said Supervisor Holmes, who is also a member of the Older Adult Advisory Council. “We hope to discover from the very people who are affected what issues need to be addressed and which are the most critical. This meeting will not only provide a forum for seniors to express their views, but a place where they can meet with professionals and leaders in this service network and hopefully get answers to some of their questions.”

Issues that will be discussed include:

  • Remaining independent;
  • Transportation options;
  • Affordable housing;
  • Home repairs; and
  • Making ends meet on a fixed income.

The meeting is open to all interested parties and anyone requiring accommodations at the meeting should call Candace Roeder at Seniors First at 530-889-9500 ext. 203, by July 6 to make arrangements.
