Public Meeting Set for Placer County Tahoe Basin Plan Update

Placer County continues its effort to update the Community/General Plan in the Tahoe Basin with a Town Hall meeting in July at the Granlibakken Conference Center & Lodge in Tahoe City. At the meeting, the county will provide a report on the status of the Community Plan Update effort.
The County’s Community Plan update work is coordinated with the work of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) on its Regional Plan update, which includes the entire Lake Tahoe Basin. The community plan update efforts are being done under direction from the Board of Supervisors. An aspect of that work includes implementing a public outreach strategy for the Community Plan Update.
In addition to the Town Hall Meetings, County staff has formed four Plan Area Teams, which include public members. The Plan Areas are:
- West Shore Plan Area, which includes Homewood, Sunnyside and Tahoma;
- Greater Tahoe City Plan Area, which includes Tahoe City, Lake Forest, Dollar Hill and the Tahoe City Gateway;
- North Tahoe West Plan Area, which includes Carnelian Bay and Tahoe Vista; and
- North Tahoe East Plan Area, which includes Kings Beach and Stateline.
The Placer County Tahoe Basin Community Plan Update Town Hall Meeting will be Thurs., July 19, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., at Granlibakken Conference Center & Lodge, 725 Granlibakken Rd., in Tahoe City.
In addition to the Town Hall Meeting, the county has held two workshops with the Plan Area Teams. A third workshop is scheduled for July. These workshops allow Plan Area Teams to develop the zoning, development standards, and design guidelines for each area. Those in attendance at previous workshops included public team members, county staff, TRPA staff, Community Design Consultants, as well as representatives from the Tahoe Basin Partnership for Sustainability Communities.
The workshops have included exercises where each Plan Area Team has identified a community vision statement and community/design themes for their Plan Area and has begun to address land uses within their Plan Area. The vision statements will be used to help draft the development standards and design guidelines for each Plan Area or community within the North Tahoe Basin. These guidelines will direct land use development in each Plan Area over the next 20 years.
The next Community Workshop is scheduled for July 11, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the Tahoe City Public Utility District office, 221 Fairway Dr., Tahoe City. The County will also provide a status report of the Community Plan update process to the Board of Supervisors at their July meeting, which will be held at the Resort at Squaw Creek, on Monday and Tuesday, July 23-24, 2012.
