The public is invited to attend a workshop to be held Thursday, May 24 in Auburn by the Local Agency Formation Commissions of Placer and Nevada Counties.
Commonly known as LAFCOs, the commissions are state-created governing bodies best known for their roles in approving or denying boundary changes requested by other public agencies or individuals and in determining the spheres of influence of cities and special districts.
The workshop will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Chambers at the Placer County Administrative Center, 175 Fulweiler Ave.
The main speaker will be Executive Director Bill Chiat of the California Association of Local Agency Formation Commissions.
The workshop will be an opportunity for public officials and other interested parties to learn more about LAFCO law and procedures. All of California’s 58 counties have LAFCOs. Their goals include encouraging the orderly formation of local governmental agencies, preserving agricultural land and discouraging urban sprawl.
Admission to the workshop will be free. Space is limited, so organizers are urging anyone interested in attending to reserve a seat by:
