Placer County’s Community Development Resource Agency’s (CDRA), Environmental Health Services’ and the County Executive Office’s (CEO) North Lake Tahoe offices will be moving this month to a county-owned office building in Tahoe City. The move, part of the county’s efforts to consolidate county services and departments, will happen over the weekend of May 19-20, 2012. The departments will be open for business in their new location the morning of Mon., May 21.
The new offices will be located at 775 N. Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, in the building known as the Customs House. The lease for the previous CDRA office location on West Lake Boulevard will expire in June and the building is in need of renovations and too small for the 18 employees who work there.
Placer County purchased the Tahoe City building in the summer of 2010 and the Assessor’s Office is currently using a portion of the facility. No retail tenants will be displaced by the county’s move. The CDRA and CEO functions will occupy the first floor while Environmental Health and the Assessor’s office will be in the second floor.
"Moving these departments into this more centrally located facility will enable county staff to provide a higher level of service to Placer County residents,” said Supervisor and Chairwoman Jennifer Montgomery. Montgomery’s Fifth Supervisorial District encompasses Placer County’s entire portion of Lake Tahoe.
To ready the building for the move, the entire first floor was renovated and the tenant improvements will allow more space for staff, equipment and records. The Tahoe Administration Building that staff will be vacating over the weekend was 5,000 square feet. The Customs House contains more than 10,600 square feet of office space, including space for future expansion.
“When the county purchased this building in 2010, we did so with the intention of consolidating county services into one location,” said CDRA Director Michael Johnson. “Tahoe staff will now be housed in a building we own and the agencies and departments will not be paying rent on other office space. This location is more centrally located, which will serve our customers well.”
The new offices will have video teleconferencing capability so Tahoe area staff can meet with west county staff without incurring the time and costs of driving from Lake Tahoe to Auburn. The building will be more customer friendly and have a larger waiting area.
