BOARD COMPLETES KEY STEPS IN BUDGET PROCESS, TAKES SEVERAL OTHER ACTIONS

The Placer County Board of Supervisors completed two key steps in the county’s budget-development process this week, setting the stage for adoption of a final 2012-13 budget on Sept. 25.

At a meeting Tuesday, board members first held a public hearing on the proposed final budget and then directed staff to prepare a final budget resolution for consideration at the board’s Sept. 25 meeting.

The county’s proposed $730.2 million final budget is $19 million lower, 2.5 percent, than the final 2011-12 budget.

In other action, the board approved:

  • A resolution initiating proceedings that could lead to formation of Kings Beach Assessment District No. 1. If the district is established, an annual assessment will be levied to fund maintenance of future streetscape improvements within the proposed boundaries. The improvements will be part of the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project, a $45 million project that will revitalize a 1.1-mile stretch of Highway 28 through the center of Kings Beach.

  • The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hold a public hearing on plans for forming the district at a meeting to be held at North Lake Tahoe Oct. 23. If the district is established, assessments will not be collected until streetscape improvements are in place. 
  • An increase in fees for renting community rooms at the Placer County Library’s branches in Auburn, Foresthill, Granite Bay, Loomis and Rocklin. Rental fees will increase from $10 to $15 per hour beginning Oct. 1.
  • A $300,000 blanket purchase order for lumber, building materials, tools and miscellaneous hardware from three local businesses: Diamond Pacific of Auburn, Auburn Hardware and Rental, and Home Depot.
