Duran Participates in Placer Student Elections Outreach Program

Roseville, CA - District 1 Supervisor Jack Duran spent Thursday at Woodcreek High School participating in a day-long High School Outreach Program sponsored by the Placer County Elections Office.

Duran, along with representatives of the Republican, Democratic and Libertarian political parties, attended five Woodcreek High School classes. Duran’s participation included a discussion of his role as a non-partisan elected official.

“Unfortunately, not enough young people participate in the political process, so my hope is that, if we reach out to county youth, they will understand local issues and develop their own political thoughts and participate in the electoral process,” Duran said. “I was very pleased to see representatives of local political parties help students understand their political ideologies and platforms in a collegial, respectful and educational environment.”

As a past trustee with the Roseville Joint Union High School District, Duran has long championed education. His oldest son, Jared, attends Woodcreek High School and Duran stated that he wanted to set a good example for him to follow.

At the end of each program, students filled out voter registration forms and were allowed to utilize the County’s electronic vote counting machine in a “mock” election. Voter registration cards will be held until the students turn eighteen, after which they will be entered into the County’s election rolls.
