Supervisors to take a closer look at fire protection
By: Gus Thomson, Journal Staff Writer,
Placer County supervisors are going to be looking today at what they can do in their own forested backyard in the wake of the South Lake Tahoe area's devastating Angora fire.
The fire, located in El Dorado County, broke out in late June. The blaze eventually burned 3,100 acres, while destroying 250 homes and outbuildings.
Supervisor Bruce Kranz, whose District Five takes in the eastern portion of the county where much of the wildland-home interface takes place, is proposing an examination of related Placer ordinances to see how they fit into the mandates of state and federal agencies.
Michael Boyle, assistant CEO, said that work could initially involve a review of local ordinances with other agencies. Kranz will start things off with a report on the Angora fire, which he toured last week with U.S. Rep. John Doolittle, R-Roseville. Discussion on the fire will begin at 8:30 a.m.
