Clerk - Recorder Office

The County Recorder’s Office is responsible for the recording or filing of documents which give constructive notice of transactions relating to real estate and are authorized by law.  Documents are preserved and archived for reproduction for property searches and genealogical research.  Our office registers all birth, death and public marriages for Placer County.  Records are available to the public to search, view and copy for a fee, as allowed by law.

The County Clerk’s Office issues marriage licenses, performs marriage ceremonies in English and Spanish and registers confidential marriage licenses.  Our office provides direct services to the public that facilitate business and personal transactions through the filing of Fictitious Business Name Statements, Notary Bonds, as well as other professional registrations.

**NEW** Effective August 19, 2015 Limit on Purchase of Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates

Due to a statewide shortage of banknote paper, effective immediately and until further notice, the Clerk-Recorder will only be permitting purchase of one unique birth, death and/or marriage certificate per customer.  Additional certificates may be purchased from the California Department of Public Health through the mail.  Purchasing and mailing instructions are located here.
