Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project

The County has a project specific website which can be accessed at KingsBeachCore.info. This site provides all of our latest project information; public meeting dates; past public meeting materials and exhibits; as well as location and directions to submit comments.  The County website is used primarily as a depository for project plans and documents that have been created over time and is not regularly maintained.

In regards to project history, Placer County prepared, and the Board of Supervisors approved, the final environmental document for the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project. The environmental document was prepared in conjunction with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The County Board of Supervisors approved the three-lane hybrid alternative for the project.

Beginning in the Fall of 2010, Placer County began working with a consultant design team to advance and finalize the design of the project. The project consists of a variety of streetscape, parking, water quality, and transit improvements along North Lake Boulevard and throughout the neighboring grid streets.  The design also includes the installation of neighborhood traffic calming improvements.  Currently, the design is at a 100 percent level; and we are actively responding to agency comments.

Project construction is funding-dependent.  The County has secured the monies for Phase 1 ($24 million) and anticipates building this phase beginning in late 2013 and completing it during the 2015 season. Phase II will be built when the remaining funding is identified.
