Placer County Animal Services cares for thousands of animals each year. Most are wonderful animals who are waiting to be adopted into a loving, caring and lifetime home.
To adopt an animal you must:
- Complete an adoption application.
- If adopting a dog into a multiple dog house, you must have meet and greet with all dogs.
- Be at least 18 years old. With a picture identification.
- Provide proper food, water, exercise, shelter, vaccinations, medical care, grooming, identification, lifelong care and affection for your new pet.
- If you rent or lease, must have permission for a pet from the owner or manager of your rental unit.
- All animals must be altered prior to leaving the shelter.
- Pay adoption fee ($22), rabies ($8), licensing (if a resident of Placer County $11), and spay or neuter fee ($25 - 40 for cats and $40 - 99 for dogs if not already altered).
The $23 Adoption fees for dogs include the cost of the heartworm test (for dogs over 6 months), first heart worm preventative pill, frontline, first distemper/parvo & bordatella vaccination, rabies if over 4 months, deworming, and microchiping.
