Placer County Gears Up for Census 2010; Questionnaires Arriving At Every Residence

March 24, 2010

The Census 2010 questionnaires have begun arriving at houses throughout Placer County. Those homes with residential mail delivery are receiving their Census packet in the mail. Every home without mail delivery will have a Census form hand delivered. In addition, nearly 15,000 postcards in both English and Spanish regarding the Census will be sent to Cal Works participants throughout the county.

This Census is one of the shortest forms in Census history and the 10 questions on the Census 2010 form only take a few minutes to answer. The Census Bureau asks that residents answer the 10 questions on the form and return it in the accompanying postage-paid envelope.

Those residents who do not return the form will be visited in person by a census taker. A census taker is a person from your community who is hired by the Census Bureau to make sure that your neighborhood gets represented as accurately as possible. The census taker's primary responsibility is to collect census information from residences that have not sent back their 2010 Census form.

In addition, Questionnaire Assistance Centers (QACs) have begun opening across the county. At these QAC, residents can get assistance in filling out the Census form, or get answers to any questions they may have about the Census process. Additionally, the Census has set up “Be Counted” Centers which will have self-help assistance for those residents with questions about the Census, or needing forms or other materials.
