Public Meeting on Biofuels Planned for Auburn
October 12, 2010
The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NCRS), Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Rural Development (RD) California are holding 12 public meetings throughout the state to solicit public comments on the subject of biofuels.
Locally, Placer County Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery and the Placer Resource Conservation and Development District (RC&D) will host one of the meetings on Friday, October 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Placer County Board of Supervisors Chambers, located at 175 Fulweiler Avenue in Auburn.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss sources of feedstock, the current local infrastructure to support biofuels, and the estimated land use needed in California for biofuels. In additional, input is being sought on how local, state and/or federal government agencies can better partner with the private sector to increase demand for biofuels, and suggestions on how government agencies can assist with infrastructure improvements in the private sector.
“With an abundant supply of feedstock in the forestlands of Placer County, it is imperative that County residents have input on this federal program,” said Supervisor Montgomery. “If there is a potential here that could benefit residents and visitors and reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfires, we should investigate it. I encourage residents to attend this meeting and offer their input.”
