Prevent Lead Poisoning of Children

October 21, 2010

Placer County Health and Human Services is committed to the goal of eliminating elevated blood lead levels in children, and for that reason, is participating in National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, October 24-30, 2010.

Many children are exposed to lead in the home through lead-based paint and everyday objects. Poisoning can cause learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and, at very high levels, seizures, coma, and even death. Children under the age of six are at greatest risk.

This year’s theme, “Lead-Free Kids for a Healthy Future” emphasizes the importance of testing your home, testing your child, checking for recalled toys, and learning how to prevent lead poisoning’s serious health effects.
