Recovery Happens Event to Be Held Sept. 24 at Recreation Park in Auburn

A free barbecue, live music and fun for children will be among the featured attractions at Recovery Happens, a family-oriented celebration to be held Saturday, Sept. 24, in Auburn.

The event is organized each year to acknowledge people who are on the road to recovery from alcohol or drug addiction.

Open to the entire community, this year’s 11th annual celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Auburn’s Recreation Park, which is at 123 Recreation Drive near Old Town Auburn.

The guest speakers will be Placer County Supervisor Jim Holmes and Placer County Superior Court Judge Colleen Nichols.

Phillip Dudley and the Doo-Rights will provide musical entertainment. A Children’s Corner sponsored by the Placer Counseling Center will offer balloon animals, face painting and storytelling.

Recovery Happens also will feature community-interest booths with informative literature and free prizes.

This year’s sponsors include the Placer County Adult System of Care, Sierra Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependency, New Leaf Counseling Center, Sierra Family Services, CORR Hope House, Progress House and Koinonia Children’s Services.

Other sponsors are the Re-Entry Program; Pacific Educational Services; Kids First; Full Circle Treatment Center; Aegis Medical Systems; Hope, Health and Healing; K.I.S.S.; the Placer Counseling Center; Center Point Inc.; the Placer County Welcome Center; and the Placer County Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board.
