Robbers Fire Animal Evacuations

July 12, 2012

The Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn is the primary shelter location for animals. Horses, small livestock such as goats and sheep, dog, cats, bird and reptiles can be sheltered there.

The address of the fairgrounds is 1273 High Street. Animal owners should enter on Pleasant Street through the unlocked gate. They should not enter on High Street because they could disrupt fire personnel and vehicles.

The Placer County Animal Services Division will have trained personnel onsite 24/7 when animals arrive. Shelter is available at no cost and safe. Owners should bring food, meds and any other special needs.

The main contacts at the fairgrounds animal shelter are Laurie Johnson (Fair Manager) at 530.823.4533 and Jim Kildow (Maintenance) at 530.210.0148.

Offers to transport animals and provide shelter should be directed to Animal Services at 530.886.5500. Assistance is coordinated through Animal Services. Donations of food and hay can go directly to the shelter at the Auburn Shelter at 11251 B Avenue, Auburn.

Contact Animal Services at 530.886.5500.

Animal Service’s trained staff will assist with rescues and transportation if CAL FIRE considers an area safe to enter.
