A presentation on a possible update to the Sheridan General Plan will be considered by the Placer County Board of Supervisors at its regular meeting on Tue., May 8, 2012.
The Sheridan General Plan was originally adopted in 1976 and encompasses 2.6 square miles. The Plan provides assumptions, goals and objectives which provide the county and Sheridan residents and businesses with policy guidance about the physical development of the Plan area. However, the 1976 Plan has done little to affect development, largely due to infrastructure constraints associated with drinking water and treated sewage.
Placer County Facilities Services is currently upgrading the public water system. Wastewater treatment services have been upgraded in the past few years and have added about 70 new connections to the system.
“We have not revisited the Sheridan Community Plan in more than 35 years,” said Supervisor Robert Weygandt, whose Second District encompasses Sheridan. “It is an opportune time to review the Plan to better meet the needs of the community.”
Placer County staff will present the Supervisors three potential options for Plan upgrade work and will seek direction on how to proceed. Reasons for the Plan’s upgrade include:
- Keep Community Plan up-to-date;
- Changing community priorities;
- Comply with new laws and regulations;
- Explore new directions for Sheridan;
- Realign land uses, where necessary;
- Evaluate environmental needs; and
- Reassess future direction of land use and natural resource planning
