Village at Squaw Valley Specific Plan Project Environmental Documents Available for Public Review

A proposed high-profile project is in the works that would transform 94 acres in Squaw Valley into a development offering numerous resort residential options and amenities to visitors to the world-renowned recreational destination.

Environmental documents for the Village at Squaw Valley Specific Plan are now available for public review and comment. The 60-day public review period will close July 17.

The proposed plan would include a hotel, resort residential, retail, restaurants and bars, entertainment, and public and private recreational facilities. The development would straddle the existing Olympic Valley community. The project’s main village would have two separate areas. One would be the Village Core and would be located near the ski slopes and existing Squaw Valley Village. The second area would be called the Village Neighborhood, which would be residential neighborhoods and small commercial uses.

Other amenities in the plan area include the Mountain Adventure Camp, an indoor/outdoor recreation facility, retail and pedestrian/bike paths. A nine-acre parcel near the intersection of State Route 89 and Squaw Valley Road is planned for employee housing, off-site parking and other Village-related services. The project would have up to 850 units with a maximum of 1,493 bedrooms. Employee housing would be 50 units with enough space for 300 employees.

A public hearing on the environmental document is scheduled for June 25, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 N. Lake Blvd. in Kings Beach. The hearing is to solicit public comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Report.

In addition to being available online, copies of the environmental documents are available for review at the Tahoe City Library, 740 North Lake Blvd, in Tahoe City, Truckee Library, 10031 Levon Ave., Truckee, Squaw Valley Public Service District, 305 Squaw Valley Road in Olympic Valley, Placer County Administrative Center in Tahoe City, 775 North Lake Blvd., and the Placer County Community Resources Development Agency (CDRA) building, 3091 County Center Drive, Auburn.
