To help house the local workforce and permanent residents in the East Placer/North Lake Tahoe area, Placer County is working to increase the availability of housing for a variety of income types, including changing codes and policies, addressing legislation, creating financial incentive programs, and building housing.

The Meadow View Place 56-unit affordable apartment complex in Martis Valley opens December 2021.
Sawmill Heights
Sawmill Heights is a 96-unit affordable apartment complex near Northstar Ski Resort.
Kings Beach Housing
Kings Beach Housing is a 77-unit affordable apartment complex in downtown Kings Beach.
Hopkins Village
Hopkins Village, a new for-sale housing development located in Martis Valley, will sell to the Tahoe-Truckee workforce. Forty units (20 half-plexes), each containing 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a garage, will be constructed and sold entirely to local workers with a household income of 180% area median income or less.
Dollar Creek Crossing (in planning stages)
Placer County purchased an 11-acre property near Tahoe City in 2019 to produce a mix of achievable housing for the local workforce in North Lake Tahoe. The Dollar Creek Crossing development is in planning stages.

Workforce Housing Preservation Program
The Workforce Housing Preservation Program is designed to secure our existing housing inventory for the local workforce. Buyers and developers are eligible for payment in exchange for deed restricting homes so they can only be occupied by local workers. The funding can help homebuyers with down payments or complete renovations.
First Time Homebuyer Assistance Program
This program provides flexible second mortgages to help families purchase their first home in the unincorporated areas of Placer County. The First Time Homebuyer Assistance Program loan can help make mortgage payments more affordable.
Martis Fund Down Payment Assistance Program
Martis Fund’s Homebuyer Down Payment Assistance Program provides down payment assistance for median income Tahoe/Truckee locals.
East Placer Lease to Locals Program
Placer County has contracted with Landing Locals to incentivize long-term rentals in East Placer by converting underutilized homes into long-term rentals for local workers. The Town of Truckee Housing program ranges from accessory dwelling units to affordable and workforce housing.
Mountain Housing Council
The Mountain Housing Council Tahoe Truckee (MHC) is a project of the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and brings together 28 diverse partners to accelerate solutions to achievable local housing. The MHC’s goal is to build on the needs identified in the 2016 Truckee North Tahoe Regional Workforce Housing Needs Assessment and tackle the unique and pressing challenges of housing in the North Tahoe-Truckee region, including availability, variety, and affordability.
Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency
The Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency is a Joint Powers Authority that was formed to support the development of workforce housing for member agencies by acquiring, developing, or contracting for workforce housing and supporting housing programs for agency employees.
Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has land use authority in the Tahoe Basin and is working to update codes to facilitate achievable housing basin-wide.
Building Accessory Dwelling Units in Tahoe Basin
Accessory Homes (ADUs) are allowed on parcels zoned to allow residential use in the Placer County portion of the Tahoe Basin.
