Village at Squaw Valley Final Environmental Documents Ready for Review

The final environmental impact report for the proposed Village at Squaw Valley Specific Plan project is now available, opening a minimum 30-day public review period. The report and previous review documents are published online.

The final environmental impact report responds to all comments received on the draft EIR, which included numerous comments on impacts to the Lake Tahoe Basin, traffic, visual resources, noise, water supplies, biological resources and other impacts of the project. The final EIR also includes minor revisions to clarify the project description contained in the draft EIR and provides further details on impact analyses and conclusions, where warranted. No substantive alterations were made that would require re-circulation of the draft EIR.

Under the project's specific plan, 94 acres in Squaw Valley would be transformed into a destination resort village offering numerous resort residential lodging options and amenities. Up to 850 units with a maximum of 1,493 bedrooms would be developed.

The plan includes new hotel, resort residential, retail, restaurants and bars, entertainment and public and private recreational facilities. The project would consist of two neighborhoods linked by a network of landscaped pedestrian corridors and trails.

The Village commercial core neighborhood would be located adjacent to the existing Squaw Valley Village base area and ski slopes, and would include restaurants, retail and recreational uses in a pedestrian-oriented village atmosphere. Also included would be the Mountain Adventure Camp, an indoor and outdoor recreation facility.

The Village neighborhood, located in the northwest portion of the plan area, would be strictly residential, including a small-scale neighborhood serving commercial uses.

A 9-acre parcel located approximately 0.3 miles west of the intersection of State Route 89 and Squaw Valley Road is planned for development of employee housing, off-site employee parking, a shipping and receiving facility and a neighborhood market. Employee housing would include up to 50 units and would house up to 300 employees.

Dates for public hearings before Placer County's planning commission and the board of supervisors to consider the FEIR and the project entitlements have not been determined, but will be scheduled following the 30-day FEIR public review period.

In addition to being available online, copies of the report are available for review at the Tahoe City Library, 740 North Lake Boulevard., in Tahoe City; Truckee Library, 10031 Levon Avenue., Truckee; Squaw Valley Public Service District, 305 Squaw Valley Road in Olympic Valley; Placer County Administrative Center in Tahoe City, 775 North Lake Boulevard.; and the Placer County Community Development Resource Agency building, 3091 County Center Drive, Auburn.
