Get notifications if disaster strikes: Register for our emergency mass notification system and be a part of a regional test on Wednesday, Oct. 26

As part of Flood Preparedness Week, residents are urged to prepare for a natural or human-caused disaster - events that often occur with little to no warning.

Residents of Placer, Sacramento and Yolo counties are urged to register with the mass notification system on the Placer Alert, Sacramento Alert, and Yolo Alert websites. Registering will allow public safety officials to text, call cell phones or landline phones, or email in the event of a disaster. Residents choose the notification methods they prefer at time of sign-up. Signing up is easy and information is protected. Officials will only notify residents during an emergency or if help is needed to find a missing person.

Wildfires and flooding can occur rapidly, sometimes forcing evacuations, shelter-in-place orders and/or road closures. The mass notification system is a critical link for residents to immediately learn of actions they might need to take for their safety.

The alert system allows residents to register more than one contact method including cell phones, alternate numbers, text, email and landline phones. Residents choose the best notification method for them, or choose them all. Multiple locations such as work, a parent’s or children’s school address can also be selected.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, there will be a tri-county test of the emergency notification system as part of Flood Preparedness Week.

Placer County is performing a targeted test to a limited number of areas. This is the first regional test of the system and will include targeted areas of unincorporated Placer County and certain neighborhoods in the cities of Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln.

Messages in Placer County will go out beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. to anyone in the targeted areas who has a listed home phone number or who has signed up for the alerts.

Alert messages for Placer County residents will include a local phone number to call, so that the message may be repeated, and for those who have questions about the test.

If anyone is not sure if they’ve registered or if they’ve changed phone numbers, they are encouraged to check their registration information now, or and log in or create a profile.
